We had left Clifden in pouring down rain that continued all day. When it's raining like that, within the first 15 minutes you are soaked so your ride turns into a swimming exercise. The ride was through mountains, by lakes, rivers, bays with beautiful views of the scenery. It was a day of mist, rain, wind, hills, and bog.
We rode 37 km with an EG of 1,220 ft, to reach Leenane. We arrived at 2 pm had lunch in a bar in town then went back to our lodge. The next day we left our lodge at 10 am in a mist that thankfully stopped soon.
It was mostly a cloudy day without rain. We followed N59, following the bay for the first 5 km. Then it started a gentle climb that lasted 20 km getting to 430 ft before a slow downhill into Westport. The ride was up to a high plateau, in between mountains with waterfalls, rivers, and lots of sheep. EG was 928 ft.
We had a rest day today, getting our clothes washed and dried. Westport is a beautiful and colorful little town.
