Chalon-sur-Saone, Tournus, and Macon - Days 45-48

 Our ride to Chalon was mostly on country roads in vineyards for first half and followed the Saon Canal Central. 






 


Tournus:

We left Chalon on small roads thru farms and small quaint towns. Then arrived at the Saone river and followed it to Tournus.  












Macon:

The ride to Macon was all along the Saone river and completely flat. However, the temperature reached 94 degrees today and if it wasn’t for the occasional tree shade along the way we would have wilted before reaching Macon. 






This post office building was designed by the Architect Choquin to be build in Algeria, but after the 1914 it was decide to have it built in Mâcon. So the exterior decorations which depicted palm trees and dates, were changed to vineyards and grapes.
